Xiaomi officially launched its second electric vehicle, the YU7 SUV, in China, with a range of up to 830 km and prices starting at $34,600.

Developed on the Modena platform, the vehicle is available in three versions with different levels of power, traction, and performance. The most powerful model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.23 seconds. With an aerodynamic design, a high-tech interior, and a focus on comfort, the YU7 features items such as massage seats, minibar, Apple integration, and a Dolby Atmos sound system with 25 speakers.

The public response was immediate and massive: more than 240,000 firm orders in just 18 hours, selling out production until early 2027.

Xiaomi already operates two factories in Beijing, each with an annual capacity of 150,000 cars, and plans to start mass production of the YU7 at the F2 plant from July 2025. Consumers could choose between a refundable deposit or a non-refundable priority payment, the latter quickly sold out.

With demand up to three times higher than that recorded for the SU7 sedan, the new SUV represents a logistical challenge for the young automaker. While the SU7 has waiting lists of almost a year, the YU7 already exceeds 18 months of waiting.

Xiaomi now needs to adjust its production capacity to meet the success of its two models without compromising deadlines and customer satisfaction.
